I always find term 3 is jam-packed with activities, and most parents are starting to feel burnt out! In fact, when chatting to parents, this is what they all complain about at this time of year. Self-care is so critical to our mental health. How can we look after our kids and others if we, as parents, are burnt out? The saying, “You cannot pour from an empty cup”, has never been more true. Here are a few small tips that will ensure you are taking care of yourself throughout the day: 1. Practice deep breathing. This can be done subtly throughout the day. 2. Listen to music. With streaming nowadays, music is easy to access from practically anywhere and can lighten any mood! 3. Drink plenty of water. You should aim for at least 8 glasses a day. 4. Eat nourishing meals and cut out junk food. Your body needs nutrients. 5. Good sleep. Your body needs to sleep more this term to avoid burning out. Aim for at least 8 hours! 6. Positive self-talk statements. Give yourself some mantras or positive affirmations. 7. Have a cup of tea in the garden. Just taking 5 minutes for yourself can help you recharge. 8. Have a chat with a good friend. It helps you feel supported and connected. 9. Take a walk in nature and recharge. 10. Setting boundaries. Yes, believe it or not, this is a vital aspect of self-care! Even though you are hopefully trusted and respected, your needs are valid and crucial and should be met! Take some time for yourself this week and recharge! You need this!
